Waar ligt Doorwerth

(Doorwerth, province of Gelderland) Doorwerth is set in the outer marches of the Rhine, where it was built in 1260 for Berend van Dorenweerd. In 1430 Reinald van Homoet expanded the building. Many of its owners did not live at Doorwerth, so it was never subjected to renovations in the fashionable style of a particular age. The downside, however, was neglect, and during the ownership of the Van Aldenburg family in the early 1800s the castle fell into disrepair. Restorations by the Baron van Brakell offered only brief respite, but in 1909 the Doorwerth Association acquired the building in order to preserve it. Doorwerth was severely damaged during WW2, but meticulously restored. It now houses three museums.
